Air Mail Dad Blanket turns a classic airmail envelope into a soft, wrap-around letter for your father. The print opens with “Dear Dad” and closes with “I love you!”, and the lines in between say that distance does not weaken affection. Red and blue stripes frame the edge, and stamps fill the corners. It suits a dad who lives far away, a dad who works long hours, or anyone who has ever written a letter to say what they could not say out loud.

The print at a glance

The main subject is a handwritten-style letter set on a cream background, with the greeting “Dear Dad” near the top left. Below it, the message runs in black script across several lines: “Even when I'm not close by, I want you to know I love and appreciate you, always.” The lettering is loose and personal, the way a note written in a hurry would look, which gives the blanket a warm, intimate feel. A line near the bottom reads “wrap yourself up in this and consider it a big hug!!” and the sign-off “I love you!” sits at the lower right.

Around the text, the stamps do the rest of the storytelling. A red heart envelope pierced by an arrow sits at the top center, and a red oval postmark reads “You & Me Forever.” A round blue AIR MAIL seal with a small plane marks the right side, and the words “AIR MAIL” appear in a blue box at top left beside a “DAD'S LOVE” stamp. In the lower left, a triangular stamp says “LOVE AIR MAIL,” and a red postal seal with a plane fills the lower right corner. Blue and red diagonal stripes run around the whole border, the way international airmail envelopes were once edged.

Who it is for

The first thing most people notice is the envelope edge, and then the words “Dear Dad.” That is usually enough to make a father stop and read. The design fits a dad who is far from home, a grandfather who has moved away, or a stepdad or father figure you want to thank for staying close in other ways. It also suits a busy dad who always seems to be at work, since the letter reads as a reminder that he is missed and loved even when the house is quiet.

The message is simple enough for any relationship. A daughter might give it to a dad who taught her to drive, a son might give it to a dad who lives overseas, and a partner might give it to the father of their children. The stamps add a playful note that keeps the message from feeling too heavy.

Occasions to use it

Father's Day is the obvious choice, because the letter form suits a card-like gift that sits on the couch all year. A birthday works well too, especially if you are not able to be there in person. Christmas gives you a chance to send a letter in the mail that arrives as a blanket, and a wedding anniversary for a couple with a dad in the family could also bring the design to the table.

You can also keep it for an ordinary Tuesday. Drape it over a chair while he reads the paper, or bring it along on a long-distance visit so he can pull it around his shoulders while you talk on the phone. Available in fleece and sherpa styles, so you can pick the softness that suits him best.
