Jesus Love Blanket: A Scripture Front Page Throw

Jesus Love Blanket shows a mock newspaper front page, and the headline “The Jesus Herald” gives the joke away at once. Below it, “Good News! Good News!” is printed in bold, and the line “Jesus loves you with an everlasting love” tells you what the page is about. The reader who knows scripture will recognize the format as a spin on a daily paper, and that is the fun of it. It was made for anyone who wants their faith to show up in the room.

What the design shows

The layout is built like a broadsheet. Across the top runs the headline, with a small cross above the masthead and gold rules dividing the columns. In the center, a painted Jesus stands with his arms open and a soft glow around a heart at his chest, and beneath him the words “Sending you the peace, comfort & love of Jesus” sit in brown script. Around him are six small panels, each with a Bible verse set in serif type and a painted image: a dove with an olive sprig, a open hand holding a golden heart, a shepherd's lamb beside a crook, a heart with a bandage, a stone castle and a pair of wings. The verses run from Matthew 11:28 to Isaiah 40:31, so every panel gives you a different promise to read while you sit under the throw.

Who it was made for

The people who will notice this first are the ones who already know these verses by heart. A woman who reads Psalms with her coffee will spot Psalm 46:1 at once, and a deacon who teaches Sunday school will recognize the good shepherd panel. A friend who is going through a hard season may find that “Come unto me, and I will give you rest” is the line they need to see. You can also use this blanket in a hospital room, a nursing home or a living room where a family gathers for prayer.

As a gift and every day

This blanket fits a baptism, a first home, a get-well visit or a Sunday afternoon when someone needs a quiet reminder that they are loved. Give it to a grandparent who keeps a Bible open on the arm of the chair, or pair it with a devotional book for a new believer. It comes in Fleece Throw Blanket, Sherpa Throw Blanket, Fleece Blanket and Sherpa Blanket styles, so you can choose the feel that suits the person you are giving it to.
