Tuxedo Cat Lover Blanket: Once Upon a Time Story

Tuxedo Cat Lover Blanket shows a black-and-white kitten framed by a vine archway, with the printed words ONCE UPON A TIME I PICKED UP A TUXEDO CAT AND THE REST IS HISTORY. The line borrows the opening of a fairy tale and turns it into the story of a cat who picked its person. It was made for anyone whose tuxedo cat has taken over the sofa.

Behind the design

The kitten sits upright at the center of the scene, its white chest and paws standing out against the dark coat and the cream background. Its amber eyes look slightly sideways, as if it already knows it has won. Curling vines and small golden leaves wrap around an arch on either side, giving the picture a storybook frame. Thin branches with tiny buds rise between the vines and the kitten, adding a quiet, autumn feel to the scene. The soft, hand-drawn look of the cat gives the whole piece a vintage character. The lettering is set in bold, stencil-style capitals, black on cream, so the first line sits above the kitten and the second line runs across the bottom. Together the kitten, the vines and the words make a single picture that feels like the cover of an old picture book about a very confident cat.

Who gets the joke

The people who will laugh first are owners of tuxedo cats, the black-and-white cats that look as though they are wearing a formal jacket. When you read ONCE UPON A TIME, you will recognize the moment a cat decided it was yours. This design also suits anyone who has been adopted by a cat that chose them without asking. You might bring it out on a quiet evening when your cat has settled onto your lap. It also works for a cat-loving friend who keeps talking about their latest feline.

Gift and choice

This blanket makes a thoughtful present for a cat lover, a housewarming, or a new cat owner who has just brought a kitten home. You can choose between a fleece throw and a sherpa throw, depending on whether you prefer a smooth finish or a soft, fluffy one. Wrap it with a small toy or a bag of treats for a playful bundle. It is also a good way to celebrate the day your own tuxedo cat first came into your life.
